Disclaimer: I KNOW this list is lacking depth and richness, but I opted for speed getting this initial “Reno Gathering Story” out over waiting for the time to do a more perfect job. Forgive my brevity (I’ll add url’s and links and more stories later)... send YOURS now!  Casey

The NRPA LAP list has been established, through the National Recreation and Park  Association Pacific Service Center, for those interested in an effort to  establish parks and recreation sites as community technology centers or LAP's  (local access places).

LAP centers will benefit from all that comes with community development,  forming partnerships and having resources available for those that might not  have access to technology year round.

The vision of creating or "running" a community LAP is a concept that Max  Gail, respected actor/activist has been developing over the past 7 years. Lap  involves creating local access to Information Technologies in ways that support  creative community collaboration and the Local Access Philosophy: the fullment  of needs and aspirations that enhances the chances for new generations. He has  built relationships and a knowledge base from the neighborhood level to the  national level in all areas that impact community Parks and Recreation,  education, commerce, agriculture, workforce and economic development, community  policing, emergency management, voluntary organizations and others.

We are advocating for Parks and Recreation community centers around the  country to become designated NRPA-LAP centers (Local Access Places) including  technology centers for public access to all citizens, emphasizing the  underserved members of our communities. Parks and Recreation community centers  and staff can serve as a site and facilitators of current efforts by government,  business, and non-profits to "bridge the digital divide".

This list will serve as a connection point to explore formation of LAPS,  share resources, announce events and training opportunities, grants, and other  special projects.

Thank you for joining us on this remarkable journey.
